There are a number of differences between film and digital. Both can get great pictures. Here is the reason that I prefer digital: 1. I like to take allot of pictures, and I don't want to be limited to just a few shots. This also gives me the chance to be creative and take plenty of artistic shots. 2. I do a lot of enlargements. The majority of my enlargements are enhanced with black and white vignettes, hi key artsy black and white, frames and borders, paint strokes, sepia, misty effects, and many more. I do this to create one of a kind, beautiful portraits. However, if I use film, then it must be converted from film to digital before I can do my creative artwork. Unfortunately, when film is scanned, the quality is degraded a considerable amount. In other words, the scanned version, is not nearly as good as the original film, and the digital scan prints much more grainy than the film. With digital, there is no transition or loss. 3. The first digital camera's were not very good, but digital has improved immensely in the last two years. The professional camera's are now quite able to equal or even surpass the quality of film. Digital is much easier to adjust, and much finer adjustments can be made with digital. 4. It is interesting to note, that photographers who prefer film, often have their negatives adjusted digitally. If film is truly better, then why are film prints improved with digital adjustment? 5. Film is a little easier to use in some circumstances, but professionals who are familiar and shoot with professional digital camera's, know how to maximize each of digital's advantages. 6. Digital cameras use memory chips that can hold 300 pictures instead of being limited to 36 shots and then having to change the roll of film. 7. It is very easy to change ISO speed with a digital camera. You can shoot 5 shots at 100 iso in the sunlight, then go inside and shoot the next 5 shots at 400 iso. With film, you would need to change the film from 100 iso, to a film of 400 iso and waite almost a full roll of film. 8. The more shots you shoot with film, the more it costs.
